Harton Cemetery M.I's
Comments
from website users
This resource is intended to assist those engaged
in researching the family history of their relatives buried at Harton Cemetery
in graves which have a Monumental Inscription (M.I.)
About the Database
The database recorded here is an index of the names on the
Monumental Inscriptions. Each entry has a unique reference number which relates
to a digital image which can sometimes provide additional information. If you
contact me at;-
jbne17514@blueyonder.co.uk
I will look up the M.I. to see if there
is any more info.
There are also many unmarked graves which can be located by the usual means
through the Cemetery Office via this link;-
http://www.s-tyneside-mbc.gov.uk/environment/cemeteries/default.asp
They have extensive Records and also run a useful Genealogy Research Service
which you can easily access by a simple registration.
The general views of the Cemetery on this site are by
permission of the Cemetery Operator.

information off the website and it said to contact you?
....Really appreciate what you have done (gives me idea how
it looks etc., So over there where your cemetery is concerned do you still have
the caretaker looking after graves? Over here (in Australia) we don't have that
sort of thing relatives look after there parents’ graves, and once a week the
council maintain the lawns and area where cemetery is!
....Thank you very much for the photos. It has widened the
family tree somewhat and has provided extra information.

I understand my grandmother ..... who died, I think, 1936 and

Harton Cemetery inscriptions. My mother’s family was in South Shields for many

Hi, I have just been browsing your web site and found it of
great interest, could you please look up the M.I. for ......... at Harton
Cemetery for me as I believe they could be in my wife's family tree. If it is
them we would then be able to pay a visit and get a photograph.
Many thanks John for supplying the M.I.'s for me you have
been a great help, we will be in that part of the country in the not too distant
future to get some photographs and do some more research.
Hello John,Thank you very much for your wonderful website
indexing Harton Cemetery. It is wonderful for those of us who live far away to
be able to see the photos on the website, and then to be able to search the
indexes for family members.
I look forward to the completion of your site, as I would
very much like to find my Gandparents' graves. This would be of great interest
and comfort to my elderly and frail mother who is feeling far from her South
Shields
origins at present.
Thanks for your help - your work is bringing great pleasure
to many people.
Regards,..... New Zealand
Thank you so much - your help is greatly appreciated. All the
very best for
your own research and your excellent project.
DEAR JOHN,I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON YOUR WEBSITE AND I THINK
YOUR DOING A GREAT JOB. TOO MANY OF OUR GRAVEYARDS ARE BEING LOST TO DEVELOPMENT
AND FORGOTTEN ABOUT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Thanks for making useful information like this available to
everyone.
Hello John,I live in Toronto, Canada and I read in the
Tyneside News how you are doing a wonderful job of recording the gravesites in
Harton Cemetery.
My Grandfather and Grandmother are buried there and after checking your website
I believe they are......
.....Could you please tell us if there is a headstone and if
there is one what it says on it.
Thank you very much in advance - I live in Worcestershire and so unable visit

Thank you very much for the very quick information you sent,
it is much appreciated, my mum was very please when I told her the inscription.
Dear Mr. Bage I just found out today that my grandfather was
buried in Harton Cemetery. I was amazed to find your website which is a valuable
resource.
For all I know there may not even be a headstone but I would dearly love to find
out. I am a long way away in London and you are my only hope!
I'd love to hear from you if you think you can help.
Best wishes for your future endeavours. The world needs people like you
otherwise everything gets forgotten!
I have just discovered your database,...... I thank you for
your considerable efforts.
I have read your sight with great interest and I would be
grateful if you could look up the following for me.
Your site on the Harton Cemetery is excellent and very
interesting to look at and I do thank you for your time.
Hello,I wonder if you could provide any further information
on the grave of some of my mother-in-laws grandparents who are listed on your
records.
This would be special as their grand-daughter is now 85 and the family were
dispersed through illness and death and she knows so little about her origins.
I have found your website a fountain of information and
congratulate you on your hard work
Thank you for this site, and for your help.
Hi there First of all I will just say this web site is
fantastic! I am trying to trace my family tree and I am originally from South
Shields.
Hello John Thank you so much for making this service
available to us!
Kind regards and God bless you, New Zealand
..........many thanks in anticipation, and well done for such
an amazing piece of record keeping!
Best wishes and thanks for a great job and website
Hi I have just come across your excellent site.....
Dear Mr Bage Thank you so much for your tremendous website.
In younger days I spent many hours wandering Harton cemetery which I always
found a beautiful and interesting place.
Whilst studying your site I came across my g.g. Grandfathers name and wonder if
you could tell me what is written on the stone. Unfortunately, when I lived in
Shields I didn't know this man was my ancestor and now living in London I have
to do most family research long distance.
Dear John, Thank you for a wonderful site....New Zealand
I have just seen your excellent site on Harton Cemetry......
John I can't Thank You enough ! What a wonderful job you are
doing and I'm sure everyone is so grateful.
Hello,What a great resource your website is! I am from the
US, but will be traveling to South Shields....
Hi John Thanks for the information. It’s a shame the
councils can't recognise the importance of the work being done by volunteers and
how the 'outside record offices' as my sister calls them are being recorded.
It’s scandalous the amount of vandalism in the cemeteries on top of the
erosion. I was in Scotland last year and there is not a bit of rubbish lying
around, no vandalism tolerated, and any leaning stones aren't knocked down but
made safe.
Keep up the good work
Hi There I live in Sydney and am researching my family tree
and wonder if you could help me with details of the following graves at Harton
Cemetery....
John Fantastic information, thank you so much for your prompt
reply & for working on this project which must be useful to so many people.
I knew 4 of the first lot were buried together……... I would never have found
the details of his death without your record of the headstone!
Hi John,You have done a great service to those with family
ties to Harton.
Thank you for your wonderful listing of headstones, I'm amazed that you can
provide so much effort.
I would like to say that the website you have created is
fantastic for people like me when tracing our family history as it is not always
possible to visit the cemeteries in question and on one visit it is possible to
miss the information you are looking for.
I wish you luck in completing your website and thank you for your time and help.
Thanks to your site I have come upon the grave of my great grandparents........
I have just been into the Harton Cemetery site, and must say
what a wonderful job I think you are doing.
25/03/08 Thank you John - this was very
helpful You're a star!
11/05/08 I found your website for Harton Cemetery
where my grandparents are buried along with their first child....Canada
28/05/08 Just one more thing.... I think it's
great that you are recording this kind of valuable information which can so
easily be lost. Thank you!! ......Germany
01/06/08 I came across your website on Google and it strongly looks
like you could have
records of deceased members of my family.....Thailand
01/06/08 A considerate lady in the
USA
with whom I have been in contact recently as we both hunt (along different
branches) for ....... family members, pointed me in the direction of your Harton
Cemetery M.I's web page on which you list......
02/06/08 That's wonderful! Thank you so much for taking
the trouble to lay out the details so precisely…….I now know exactly who
they all were and can add the previously missing dates to my Family Tree.
I am indeed very grateful. How kind you are to take such trouble for
complete strangers......Canada
03/06/08 FANTASTIC! At least four matches
immediately visible. Many thanks
06/07/08 Well done for all your hard work in producing such an
informative and accessible site.

further information before I make a visit to the cemetery

information

Not only is this the last resting place of my Grandfather but as a bonus it is
also that of my Great Granparents.
15/08/08 Many thanks. It means so much to our family
