Hi, This is excellent. A helluva lot of work
must have gone into this, and I am now able to trace back my family to 1756
and would like to go back further if possible. Having said this, I do have
information that may be of assistance and can be added to this site and
bring it more up to date well certainly on my family's side. I can be

Fascinating, I didn't realise there were so
many; why can't people ever spell it correctly? We get so many variations!!!
Page, Rage, Sage, Cage, BAGE!!! how hard is it to spell? I married a Bage. I
prefer my married name to my maiden name. We have three daughters and one
son; we didn't want the name to die completely!! I am unable to add any
ionfo to the site as my Bage knows nothing of his fathers background. Keep
up the site, I'd like my kids to visit when they are older!!
Ed;- If you let me have your BAGE
first name, birth date, and place of birth I may be able to add more
details.

I would really like to find out more about
my paternal grandmother whose name was Helena Clasper. I'm not sure
of the year of her birth but it must have been somewhere around 1890. I
think she was from West Hartlepool. Apparently she married a man called
Stewart who was lost at sea. Then she married my grandfather Harry
Lovatt and went to live in Hull, had 4 children. I think she had two
brothers called Walter and Robert. We don't know her mother's
maiden name. Any ideas? I live in Canada but my parents who live in
Yorkshire (now in their 80's) are still very interested in finding out more
about their ancestors, as am I. Julia Lovatt (jlovatt@destination.ca)
Ed;- I may be able to add more
details.

Keep up the good work. I was brought up in
the Cotswolds but my parents came from Bolton with I believe some Scottish
connection. Having moved to Brazil surprised to find a William Dawson

a Sheffield company) in the 1920s having come previously been posted in
Africa. Clive Dawson

This site has really helped me to find out
about my Great, Great, Great, Great.....etc Uncle Harry Clasper. I
needed information about my family tree including Harry Clasper for a
school project and I think it's great that my distant relatives have found
out so much information about him. I'm a Clasper from my dad's side
of the family living in Northumberland and I'm really keen to know my family
history. It's a great site! (thank you John)*roxycadell@yahoo.co.uk*

connection to CLASPER I may be able to add more details.

What a great site, I came across it while
researching the Spendlove tree. I spent the next eight hours reading
every line, you can imagine my delight and shock when I found my name, my
parents name and my grand parents, Arthur and Lilly Bage. The
family came to Toronto, Canada about 1911 when my mother was about two years
old. She met my dad William P. Spendlove while looking for work in
California in the late 1920's. Thank you very much for the hours of
enjoyment. Joe Spendlove

John, Almost a year ago, while researching the Clasper line I was lucky
enough to find a link to your website which provided me with much
information on the origins of the Clasper family name etc.but at that stage
gave me no direct link to my own family tree. However, today, while checking
your Guest Book, I came across what I believe is a direct link with my own
family, namely, the entry by Angela Clasper, Northumberland on 7 December
2003. My father, Robert, was the brother of Andrew, Mary and Kitty. Can you
please advise me of Angela's email address as I now live in Australia. Bill
Clasper.....bjclasp @ tpg .com.au
Ed;- Bill, let me know your email as
this one is being returned.
At the moment I am unable to contact Angela as she didn't leave her
email. I have posted a reply and am hoping she will get back to me.
Can you give me any more info about your connection so that I can
add it to the tree. Mothers maiden name and anything else you might have,
including when they went to Australia.

My Grandfather was George Clasper he died in 1953/4 aged 52, he was
married to Molly who died last year aged 94, they lived in Cleadon village.
George was given The Freedom of the City of London in 1953 for his services
as a pioneering ophthalmic practitioner, his practice was in Sunderland.
George was a direct descendant of one of Harry Claspers sons im not sure of
exact details, my father Malcolm has more knowledge, he is living just
outside of Morpeth with my Mother, which is where i was brought up. My
father was the only child of George and i the only son, i have a son Oliver
who is studying A levels at boarding school in West Sussex. I moved to
London from the North East in 1984 to study. My father recently visited the
family memorial where Harry et all are buried he said it was in a state of
disrepair, but believes plans are afoot to restore it. My mother Barbara's
family name was Pigdon and she has traced it back to the 17C where the
village of Pigdon just north of Morpeth is where the family came from. My
family have as far back as we know had connections in the North East which
we are all very proud of but i have still never found out where the name
Clasper originates from and would love to know. Any info please contact me.
stephenclasper@aol.com
Ed;- I have your family tree but I can't pin
down your Great Grandfather and his family in the 1901 census information
that I have, as there are two George Clasper's born around 1900. One is born
in Chester Le Street, Durham and the other in Pelton Fell, Durham. Have you
or your dad any recollection of the name of your Great Grandmother or any of
the brothers or sisters?

Dear Dave, Thank you for all your research; you have done a greta deal of
work. Your web site is very readable, accessible and speedy. In your
research, have you come across a Joe Clasper who was married to Clara E
Linley (b 1878, d?)who must have been a great aunt of mine. This was, I
think,, her 2nd marriage, having previously been married to Samuel James
Harris. I have some links with descendamnts of that family, but have no
record of the Calsper family. I am told they had 2 children. Would be
interested in any links you may have. I have searched your trees but only
found a couple of Joseph Clasper's, neither of whom are the one in question.
Best Wishes Christopher Murray
(amurray@worth.org.uk)
Ed;- I found a Joseph CLASPER married a HARRIS in 1923 Newcastle
Town Ref 10b 9. A Clara E CLASPER died 1949 Newcastle Town Ref 1b 53. She
was age 71 so born 1878. I can find no birth records for children to either
of the maiden names HARRIS or LINDLEY. If you go to;-
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl and
search for Clara E LINDLEY you will find several results which may include
the one you are interested in.

I think this site is fantastic and my congratulations to John for such an
informative site. My father was Sylvester Anthony Bage son of Walter George
Herd (or Harrett) Bage. He was one of eight children born to Walter and
Catherine Castleton. Len Bage is my cousin.I knew his mother and father
well. I hope we can continue this fascinating research and would love to
hear of other connections. Just a correction. My Father Sylvester Bage was
Head Chef at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough for twelve years. My Mother
(Elsie Galloway) never worked there. However, they did work together for a
short period of time at the Ilkley Golf Club. As well as being a brilliant
chef my father was also a gifted artist, musician and poet. He played
piano, clarinet and saxaphone. He played the piano at dances and also for the
silent films. That is how he met my Mother. He served on the minesweepers
during the war and was twice mentioned in despatches as well as receiving a
medal for diving into the sea to help rescue men whose ship had been
torpedoed. If anyone has any further information about this branch of the
family I would love to hear from them

age to the second war. One figure represents Robert Bage. Pictures of the

It has been my pleasure to have browsed the Bage Family History. Many
thanks to John Bage for his tremendous work. I am a descendant of the
Bage Family of Surry, Virginia. I am "at awe" as to how the identical
names have passed down thru the generations as early as the 16th
century...My grandfathers name was James William Bage, deceased in
1982, His father, my great grandfathers name was Thomas Bage. Thanks
for the opportunity and I will visit again...

Pleased (and Proud, too) that it's my fortunate lot....to be the first entry
in this Bage History Guestbook! Have reviewed several chapters of the
Bage History compilations by John Bage -and can't commend John
ENOUGH for this Great Piece of Work. I certainly intend to `exploit' the
Message Board, in the coming months and years -- but at the moment I'm in
process of relocating my residence to Sunny Florida. This will mean
generally postponing attention to Message Board for awhile. In Closing, I
wish to Sincerely Thank John Bage for his initiative and (I'm sure)
his HUGE Effort that brought this Web Site into being.~~~ Best Regards to
ALL, ~~~//Earl Bage (of the `US Connection')
Ed. If anyone else can
add information to the above comments please let me know
