This Action Statement forms a key step in the Flora and Fauna Guarantee program. It follows the listing of the Giant Gippsland Earthworm under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 and outlines the actions to be taken to ensure the long-term survival of the species.

The Giant Gippsland Earthworm (Megascolides australis McCoy) is one of the largest earthworms in the world, with an estimated average length of 80 cm and a diameter of 2 cm (Yen et al. 1990). It has 300 to 500 body segments. The front third of the body (including the head) is dark purple and the remainder is a pinkish-grey.

Since its description by McCoy (1878), most of the published information on the Giant Gippsland Earthworm involves morphology (Spencer 1888; Bage 1909),

A History of Women's Hockey 1912-1960
By Kathy Daly

Four teams from Brisbane affiliated with the Q W H A - University, Federal Taxation, St Andrews and Brisbane State High. Miss Freda Bage, the first University Club patroness, was to hold that same position in the Q W H A and would prove to be an influential figure in Brisbane Hockey

The class and status of these women was uncharacteristically self achieved in contrast to being acquired as a consequence of father/husband relationship. Employed predominantly in professional work, these women were able to steer Brisbane hockey to success.

Inspired by the desire to prove female capability on the sports field and their right to play these women established an organisation that was beyond rebuke. Miss Freda Bage, the first principal of the University Women's College and president of the Q W H A for six years set and maintained proper dress and behaviour standards.

"Miss Freda Bage was greatly concerned with civic morality. She enjoyed fun but not vulgarity".

Those who followed Miss Bage, reinforced her ideals. As such ruling class values were imbued into the early stages of this sporting institution.
