A Record of the BAGE Family History Will - George Bage 4 May 1789 Ref PRNW Ollerton This is the Last Will and Testament of me George Bage of Ollerton in the parish of Edwinstowe in the County of Nottingham, Papermaker, made this fourth day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand and seven hundred and eighty nine, as follows (that is to say) First I will and direct that all my just Debts and Funeral Expenses be paid off and discharged my Executors after named and Subject thereto, and to a certain Annuity of ten pounds payable to Mrs Sarah Bage for and during the term of her natural Life as mentioned in a certain Bond given by me to her And charged and chargeable therewith respectively I give and Bequeath All My Household Goods and Furniture, plate, Linen and China, Stock in Trade, Book Debts, money due upon securities, Cattle, Chattels and all and singular other the Estate effects and things whatsoever and wheresoever, which I shall die possessed of unto my Friends John Turberville of Worksop in the County of Nottingham, Miller, Charles Doncaster of Ollerton aforesaid, Gentleman, and Joseph Turner of the same place, Grocer. In trust that they the said John Turberville, Charles Doncaster and Joseph Turner the survivor of them and the Executors and Administrators of such Survivor shall and may sell, dispose of or convert into money, all or any part of my said Estate and effects which shall not at the time of my decease consist of ready money to enable them to continue in the possession of the Papermills, Farm and premises which I now hold or any part thereof and to carry on the Businesses of a papermaker and farmer or either of them OR to sell dispose of and concert into money all my said Estate and effects and place the same (together with my other monies) out at Interest. As to them my said Trustees shall seem most expedient and advantageous, But that they shall permit and suffer my dear Wife Elizabeth to live and reside in the House where I now live, so long as they shall think proper to hold this same And upon further Trust that they my said Trustees or the survivor of them shall within one year next after my decease , cause a valuation or appraisement to be made of all such parts of my said Effects which they shall not think proper to dispose of or sell, in Order that they may ascertain what the clear value or Amount of the whole of my said Estate and effects shall be, after the payment of my said debts and other Incurrances and expenses And that they my said Trustees shall immediately cause out of my said Estate and effects a Sum of money equal to One twelthpart of the said clear amount thereof and place the same out upon a Security at Interest for the benefit of my Son John until he shall attain the Age of twenty one years, with power for my said Trustees to pay or apply the Interest therefore to, or to the use of my said son during his Minority, in any manner they shall think best, And immediately on his attaining that said age of twenty one , I direct that my said Trustees do pay to my said Son the principal Sum which the said one twelfth part shall amount to And which I do hereby Give and Bequeath to him accordingly. But if my said Son shall happen to dye before he shall attain that age, I give and Bequeath the same to my other Son and Daughters, George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary or to such of them as shall be living at the time of his decease to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike and to be paid to them in the same manner as the sums to them hereinafter bequeathed. And after the deduction of such twelfth part of my said Estate for the purpose aforesaid, Then in Trust that my said Trustees shall retain in their hands or place out at Interest as they shall think most expedient. One Fifth part of my remaining Estate (the whole into five equal parts to be divided) and pay the Interest and produce of such fifth part unto my said wife Elizabeth for an during the Term of her natural life to be paid half yearly the first payment whereof to be made in six months next after my decease, And which said Annuity of the Interest of the said One Fifth part of said remaining Estate, I give and Bequeath to my said wife accordingly for and during the term of her natural Life and from and immediately after her decease I give and Bequeath the said principal Sum of One fifth part, so retained or placed out, unto my said son and daughters George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary or to such of them as shall be living at the time of the decease of my said wife, to be equally divided amongst them, share and share alike, and to be paid to them in the same manner as the Sums to them hereinafter bequeathed in case they shall be Minors at the Time of my said wife's death, but if at Age, to be paid to them immediately, And as to the other four fifths or residue and remainder of my said Estate and Effects and the accumulated profits and produce thereof I Give and Bequeath the same unto my said Son and Daughters, George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary to be equally divided between and amongst them, share and share alike to be paid assigned and transferred to them by my said Trustees when and so soon as they the said George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary shall severally attain their respectively Age of twenty one years Provided that nevertheless that If any or either of my said son and daughters shall die before he, she or they shall attain the said Age of twenty one, then the Share or Shares of him, her or them so dying shall go and belong to, the survivors and Survivor of them the said George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary as is hereinbefore expressed touching his or their original share or share, AND provided also that it shall and may be lawful and I do hereby order and direct that my said Trustees or the Survivor of them shall have full power and Authority to pay and apply the interest of their said several shares respectively, and also any part of the principal which they shall Judge right in and towards the maintenance and education of my said Children George, Elizabeth, Susannah and Mary, and for their advancement in Life in other respects, as to them my said Trustees shall seem expedient. And I do nominate, constitute and appoint the said John Turberville, Charles Doncaster and Joseph Turner, Joint Executors of this my said Will and Guardians of the persons and Estates of al and every my said Children during their respective minorities. And I do declare that it shall be and may be lawful for my said Executors and the Survivor of them and the Executors and Administrators of such Survivor to reimburse himself and themselves out of the moneys which shall come to their hands all costs, Charges and expenses which they shall be put unto by reasons of the aforesaid Trusts And that they or any of them, their or any of their Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns respectively shall not be charged or chargeable for each other but only each of them for his own respective receipts payments Acts or wilful defaults and shall not be accountable for any more money than he shall actually receive, nor with any loss which may happen in investing and placing out the monies aforesaid, or by bad debts in trading therewith. And lastly, I do earnestly request, that my good friend Mr William Wilson will permit and suffer my Executors to hold and occupy the premises I now hold under the Executor of the late Sir George Saville, and to sell and dispose of the good will of the same at quitting to the best advantage for the Benefit of my children. And revoking all former wills by me made I declare this to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Testator George Bage have to this my Will contained in three sides of One Sheet and set and subscribed my hand and seal, namely my name to the two first sides and my name and seals to the last side hereof the day and year first above written.
